Happy New Year!!!

I had an awesome 2011 and I hope everyone else did too.  Forrest and I got married, we sold my condo, I started a new job, and we adopted a husky puppy named Swiss.  Lots of changes, but tons of fun.  Today I'm feeling thankful for all of my family and friends who helped to make 2011 such a great year.  Looking forward to 2012!

Welcome, Swiss!

We are fostering-to-adopt an 11-week old husky puppy named Swiss (at least for now). As long as she and the cats can come to some kind of peaceful coexistence, we plan to formally adopt her very soon.

So far so good - the cat world of course has been turned upside-down, but at least Swiss is not very interested in them and leaves them alone. Sometimes the cats get brave and come to take a closer look when she is sleeping. She really, really likes Jackson.

Day trip to Seward

Today we drove to Seward to see my mom and Randy's cabin, and to visit the Sea Life Center.  I can't remember ever having been to Seward in the winter, and it was really a different experience to go to the Sea Life Center without all the tourists.  It cleared up in the afternoon, and the mountains were amazing.  I'm looking forward to spending more time there, particularly in the off-season.

Here are a few pictures from the Sea Life Center.  Jackson, my mom, and I went there while Forrest helped Randy work on the cabin.  The octopus was more active than I've ever had the chance to see it, and my favorite part of today's visit.  Jackson spent a long time at the touch tank and had the opportunity to ask one of the young ladies working there all kinds of questions about the different sea anemones and crabs.

Later, we took a walk from the cabin down to the beach near the waterfall.  Jackson found some chunks of ice and plenty of rocks.
